The Department of Creative and Cultural Industries is looking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in advertising to contribute to a new suite of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees:
BA(Hons) Creative and Cultural Industries: Art Direction
BA (Hons) Creative and Cultural Industries: Design Marketing
BA (Hons) Creative and Cultural Industries: Curation, Exhibitions and Events
MSc Project Management for Creative Practitioners
These innovative courses are a fundamental part of the Department and Faculty’s strategy. Each degree is made up of a blend of creative and commercial skills and knowledge with the overall objective of providing an educational experience that prepares graduates for roles in the creative economy.
The undergraduate degrees share a common first year before developing on the selected specialism in advertising, marketing or cultural events management. The ethos of the department draws on the position that creative practice is not limited to the activities of artists, designers or curators but extends to those who work with them in project management roles, marketing or live experience design. The degrees accordingly blend business and commercial skills and understanding with practical skills of project management, storyboarding and brief writing alongside specific understanding of each degree specialism. The faculty’s principle of thinking and learning through doing means that the students experience will be supported by collaborative projects and company work placements.
On joining the department you will play a critical role in its development and success, delivering the core module Visual Narrative; creating compelling stories. You will also work with the Head of Department and Course Director for the BA (Hons) Creative and Cultural Industries design, develop and contribute to the modules for the Art Direction pathway.
Applications are welcome from people across a wide range of creative industry and academic backgrounds. Though a PhD is desirable it is not essential, as experience working in Higher Education and an understanding of current developments in the advertising and communications field, an awareness of the latest production techniques, tools and materials are the most important criteria. This exciting role is an opportunity for a committed and creative individual to play a critical role in the strategy of the faculty and make a noticeable contribution to the development of the creative industry sector. The School of Critical Studies and Creative Industries is one of three Schools in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, and as part of a new growth strategy and a reinforced commitment to build on our history and current credentials the Faculty will reclaim its name of Kingston School of Art in the spring of 2017.
